14 of us met at Shanklin last night and paddled down to “Wight Waters” at lake for an evening of “Stand Up Paddle Boarding”
We were divided into 2 groups, first the youngsters then the oldsters, with one group Paddle Boarding and the other group generally making mock and having a good laugh. I think that the reasoning was so that the youngsters didn’t show up the oldsters and there is a limit to the amount of mayhem that Scott can cope with before falling off himself in hysterics.
We learnt a great deal but I don’t think that much of it appears in the SUP coaching manual. Things like the Flying Back Flop, the Forward Face Dunk and the inevitable Side Slip. One thing we all did learn, and perfected was getting back on to the board.
Actually, quite a few (especially the youngsters and more agile amongst us) did manage to stand up and paddle while the rest of us managed to paddle while kneeling. (Or were we praying) A special mention must go to Christian who not only spent most of his session on his feet but also finished with a fantastic ride in on a surf wave.
We finished the evening with Bacon Butties, cakes and hot drinks at Dave and Lynda Fryer’s beach hut before paddling back to Shanklin.
To say that we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had a good laugh is an understatement. A huge thank you to Scott at Wight Waters for providing the equipment, expertise, coaching and venue and to Lynda and Dave Fryer plus Shirley for providing the hospitality afterwards.

A few more pics from the paddle boarding...
Thanks again for a unique experience, boy my stomach muscles ached not sure if that was from hauling myself back onto the board or laughing and the bacon butties and tea was a welcome bonus cheers Dave...
