|
|
I would like to suggest that we try and organize some events for club members.
Dave Lutus and myself were talking to a member of a mainland club and at there club each coach is asked if they can organize an event each per year. This stops all the organizing falling onto the same peoples shoulders.
I would like to suggest that club coaches volunteer to run a club event for club members.
One event per month from April to September would make 6 events, It would be nice if we could run 3 events for youth paddlers or at least mixed for adults and youths.
for example if someone wants to run another urban paddle, a paddle in newtown creek or a beach party. I am sure other coaches will assist you.
I also feel as these would be official club events once the coaches have decided what they would like to run and when, we should all have a meeting to discuss risk assessments etc.
I would like to start the ball rolling and organize the surf festival in september
April
May
June
July
August
September 26th Kevin Surf festival
If you would be willing to run an event for the club please give some details on this forum and i will suggest this whole idea at the next committee meeting. _________________ Don't think you can - Know you can |

nice idea
... would like to run something "women specific" - quite a few 'spouses' go paddling with their hubbies/boy-friends from time to time, but are kind of reluctant to go out 'to play with the boys' (come out with the larger groups doing trips etc.)
... have previously discussed my idea with Dave L. (but was thinking then about a slightly different format, i.e. a mini-'course' over 4-6 evenings, kayaking & fitness aspects etc)
... but wouldn't mind doing it as a taster evening for women-paddlers-to-be-kinda-thing (June might be good)
... if people/women liked it, perhaps I could do a somewhat more comprehensive one later on
... any thoughts ? |

I was talking to Dave about me doing a day where I teach people 1 to 1 rolling and rescue practice.
I would have people for 1 hour at a time, 8 people in one day, if more were interest I would do following day as well.
I would be doing this on a suitable beach.
I was thinking of doing it on a weekend near the end of August, we want the water to be warm.
Dave was looking into whether I was able to run this, so if I am able to, pencil me in for August. _________________ Do you think that is Air you are breathing |

... like the idea - sounds like you're aiming for an entry in the guiness book of records
(any free spots and you can teach me hand-rolling, rolling on off-side ....) |

cool, i was thinking thats more of a course (more of that later) rather than an event.
you will be limmited to the amount of adults / youths or parents that can take part.
but if you ran a beach party where club members and coaches can share rolling and rescue tips , go surfing if there is any or a little paddle you could invite everyone and there would be less pressure on you as an individual.
just a thought _________________ Don't think you can - Know you can |

Being only a Level 1 coach I cant really do a great deal without the help of a level 2 coach being that this is a club event, Its seems a little cheeky for my to suggest something that I instantly need someone else to assist me with.
So I will hopefully be able to run what I mentioned above as a course rather than an event, and I will assist with an event that some of the other coaches do _________________ Do you think that is Air you are breathing |

This will always be the case for level one coaches, however, its the organizing and running of the day that takes the effort. if the level one is happy to do this you will always find a level 2 to be your gimp.

Ok, what about this then?
We go to the Brambles Bank Cricket match.
I have just rang the Island Sailing Club and asked when the next one will take place and at the moment it is still being arranged.
This was a nice morning out last year, so would be fun to do again, obviously depending on the weather on the day will depend on the skill level required to attend.
The Island Sailing Club will ring me when a date has been agreed. _________________ Do you think that is Air you are breathing |

cool, dont worry about anyone else, find a date that YOU can do, and if people cant make your date than its tough poo.
sounds harsh but it works. _________________ Don't think you can - Know you can |
